The Astor Theatre - New GIANT Screen

New GIANT Screen

If you thought The Astor's old screen was big just wait until you see the new one!

The shallow-curve screen is more than 19 metres wide and about 9 metres high with a 1-metre depth-of-curve at the centre.

The side and bottom masks are adjustable so that the aspect-ratio of the screen matches that of any film - from 2.35:1 for 'scope films right down to 1.33:1 for old, silent films. Movies at The Astor Theatre are always presented as the director intended.

The shallow curve means that sharp focus is maintained right across the screen.

And new lenses and 5 kW projection lamps give a brighter picture than ever with superb definition and colour.
