Gran Torino [M]
Director: Clint Eastwood Starring: Clint Eastwood, Christopher Carley Imagine if Dirty Harry retired, became a really bitter old man and settled into a quiet life in the suburbs. Welcome to the stunning Gran Torino. Eastwood can do no wrong and he is just so watchable as Walt Kowalski, a stern and grumpy Korean war vet who takes on reforming his young Hmong teenage neighbour who, under gang pressure, tries to steal Kowalski's prize possession — a mint 1972 Gran Torino. Soon after he is drawn into the crisis of the youngster's gang–related life and seeks to teach the upstart thugs a lesson; geriatric Dirty Harry style (well, sort of). Eastwood is getting on and may only have a few big screen years left in him, but this screen legend can still pack such a punch, direct from the heart and provide a mesmerising performance. (AB)
