Taking over 15 years to come to the big screen, Iron Man is one of Marvel Comics' most-enduring super-heroes. Downey Jr. relishes the role of Tony Stark, a millionaire industrialist and inventor who is sent to the Middle East. Captured, he is ordered to build a super weapon but instead fashions a devastating mechanical suit to aid his escape. Returning to America, Stark choses to use the powerful suit as a method to stop a global threat. Downey Jr., who very-publicly dealt with substance abuse, is perfect as Stark, a character dealing with alcoholism. The first in a well-planned trilogy (not just a line of sequels), there are many shadows of things to come for those well-steeped in the mythology of Iron Man. Along with the new Batman, it's one of the more well made and "true to the source material" super-hero movies on offer. AB)
