Future humans are divided into two groups: the thinkers, who make plans
and the workers, who achieve goals. When separate, neither group is
complete, but together they make a whole. Created in 1925-26 by Austrian
director Fritz Lang (1890-1976) in collaboration with his wife, Thea von
Harbou Erich. Kettelhut's Metropolis set designs and drawings helped
Lang create the unique imagery of this science-fiction classic and
provided visual inspiration for Rintaro's Japanese anime of the same name.
Excellent, multi-character performances from Brigette Helm.
Restored version and for the first time with a Dolby SR stereo
recording based on the original 1927 Orchestral Score. (AJP)
